My name is Alex Dundas and I am the founder of Tree Band Aid. Growing up under the tree-lined streets of Wolseley and River Heights, I came to love the beauty of our trees, their magnificent archways over our streets and the shade their canopies provide. In 2001, when I was in my first year of high school, I decided to help contribute to the conservation of our trees, and out of this desire Tree Band Aid was born. Since then we have grown to band thousands of trees in Winnipeg, helping to maintain the health and longevity of our urban forests.
I have noticed over the years that tree banding brings out the best of Winnipeg. In going door to door and talking to home owners I have heard just how much the health of our trees and our communities means to people. Tree banding is a great intersection between caring for the environment and caring for our community. By maintaining our urban forests we foster neighbourhoods that are pleasant to live in and communities that are cared for and actively engaged.
Looking back, I am very appreciative of the support Winnipeg has shown Tree Band Aid. Your support has helped me pursue my interest in higher education and travel. In 2009 I was selected to participate in the UBC's Go Global Exchange Program, which brought me to the University of Sussex in England. I have since finished my BA in Cultural Studies and have traveled around Europe.
